Rebecca Bruce Registered Dietitian & Nutritionist

Rebecca Bruce, Registered Dietitian & Director of Smart Nutrition

“My passion is improving health and wellness through nutrition and giving people of all ages the helping hand they need. I get great satisfaction from being able to change people’s lives for the better through the right nutrition. I can help you navigate the mine field of nutrition and work through your concerns whether it be weight loss, gut issues, your child’s nutrition or improving your energy levels.

Since completing my Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics in 2003, I have worked in a variety of clinical areas and settings both in NZ and the UK including Middlemore Hospital, Starship Children’s Hospital, Kings College Hospital in London and Tauranga Hospital. I have vast experience in children’s nutrition and have also implemented a number of successful weight management programs and plans incorporating nutrition and exercise. I set up Smart Nutrition & Kidz Nutrition over 10 years ago to help people optimise their health through nutrition.

I enjoy cooking, recipe development (all recipes are tested on my husband & children!) and keeping active. My happy place is the beach! As a working mother of two & a business owner, I understand first-hand the juggle of family life, work, and eating well. It is a challenge, but it is possible!”

Lucy Burrows, Registered Dietitian

“I am an experienced Dietitian, particularly in the areas of food allergies and intolerances, fussy eating and weight management. I have first-hand experience with food allergies as both of my children (1 and 3 years old), have allergies. Although this has been challenging, I am able to give practical and realistic advice to help support your child and family.

I finished my Postgraduate Masters in Dietetics in 2014 and have worked for Hawkes Bay DHB in various roles over the past 8 years. I began my career working in child and adolescent mental health, where I soon discovered my love for working with children and their families. I have also worked in several GP practices covering a variety of areas including diabetes, weight management and gut issues e.g Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

I have a love for the outdoors and exercise. I have always been very active and have competed in many different sports (competitive gymnast and hockey player). I regularly compete in CrossFit competitions, and I am planning on completing another half iron man in the coming year.

I started working in the sports nutrition field after completing the Sports Dietitian Australia Sports Nutrition Course in Melbourne in 2018. I have worked with Hawkes Bay rugby players (males and females), Central Districts cricket players, cyclists, ‘CrossFitters’ and triathletes. Sports nutrition is a forever growing area and I love being able to make such a difference to an athlete’s performance no matter how big or small the event or game is.

I have a passion for health and enjoy supporting others to be the healthiest version of themselves.”
